A little later, when he acquired a viola -playing classmate, he advanced to the writing of string trios for two violins and viola. Berg made a start on his second opera, the three-act Luluin but interrupted the work in for the concert aria Der Wein which he completed that summer. The opening of the concerto makes this very obvious.
